Hydrogen for Industry
Air Liquide serves its customers in the world's main industrial basins through its Large Industries business. This proximity, combined with our expertise and technologies, allows us to develop synergies between the industrial and mobility markets, to ensure the availability of hydrogen in large quantities.
Hydrogen can be used in many industrial sectors that are challenging to decarbonize, for its energy potential or as a raw material:
- Refining, to desulfurize hydrocarbon
- Chemistry, to produce methanol and synthetic fuel
- Metallurgy, for heat treatmen
- Cement production
As a responsible citizen of industry we act to develop solutions together with our partners for clean manufacturing towards a more sustainable future. Our technological expertise, innovative capacities, and strategic partnerships, are our key assets in transforming our industry.
Commited to decarbonize our assets
The Air Liquide group has developed a unique expertise both for hydrogen all along the value chain, from production and
storage to distribution, as well as CO2 capture and storage solutions. As part of its Sustainable Development objectives, Air
Liquide has set itself clear targets to reduce its emissions and reach carbon neutrality.
by 2050 carbon neutrality
-33% CO2 emissions by 2035

Supporting our customers decarbonize
Developing a wide range of low carbon technologies
Developing Carbon capture and storage solutions (CCS) is essential to support the transition by enabling the capture of large volumes of CO2 emitted by industrial actors. With its long term expertise in carbon management with Cryocap , Air Liquide is offering effective and viable low carbon technologies for industrial processes whose emissions are hard to abate.
Producing renewable Solutions to decarbonize the Industry
Air Liquide and Siemens Energy have announced the creation of a joint venture dedicated to the series production of industrial scale renewable hydrogen electrolyzers in Europe. With two of the global leading companies in their field combining their expertise, this Franco German partnership will enable the emergence of a sustainable hydrogen economy in Europe and foster a European ecosystem for electrolysis and hydrogen technology. The strategic partnership will benefit from a portfolio of hydrogen projects combining both Air Liquide and Siemens Energy’s pipelines, targeting large industrial scale hydrogen projects in collaboration with customers. One of the first projects is the Air Liquide Normand’Hy electrolyzer project, with a capacity of 200 megawatts (MW) expected in the first phase, located in Normandy, France.
Capitalizing on Industrial Basins
Energy transition requires tackling complex projects and joining forces of both public and private sectors to make these projects a reality. Air Liquide’s ambition is to contribute actively to the emergence of a low carbon society, relying on its innovative technologies as well as strategic partnerships.
